River access is the draw at the Mary S. Young off-leash area in West Linn, along Willamette Drive south of Portland. Dogs can head down to a beach area on the Willamette and splash in the water, then explore trails winding through the woods. The off-leash area is unfenced, so keep your dog's recall sharp near the river and shared paths. Seating and picnic areas are available in the surrounding park. The ground is a mixed surface. It is free and open daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Currents and cold water are worth minding at the river, and wet winters can make the wooded trails muddy.
